DIY Flower Arrangement

Happy Tuesday friends! I hope you are having a great start to the week! For Tip Tuesday I wanted to share a flower arrangement that I created using two bunches of Trader Joe’s flowers, a large crystal bowl and a mesh avocado bag!

I watched a flower demonstration done by a local florist and she had this amazing vase with a metal top on it to keep the flowers in place. I started thinking about how nice that would be to have for my large bowls like this one that I like to use on my island. The bowl is much larger than the vase that the florist was using so I knew I needed to come up with something to help keep the flowers in place. I had a bag of avocados in my pantry so I thought I would try cutting up the bag and taping it to the edges to help me form my arrangement… I love how it turned out. Would you believe that these flowers were less than $15?!? I love their flowers and they last for a while so that’s wonderful!

I started by cutting the mesh bag into a circle that was the size of the top of the bowl and taped it very well so it would stay in place and support the weight of the flowers resting against it. I know it doesn’t look good now but the mesh and tape will be covered with your gorgeous flowers! I started with the largest hydrangea, spread it’s leaves over the side of the bowl to cover the mesh and tape and placed roses as close as possible to help keep the heavy hydrangea in place. I weaved the flower stems over one another to keep everything in place. I added the second hydrangea and roses just like I did on the first one.

I placed the hydrangeas first, added roses for filler and kept adjusting until I felt like all of the flowers were in a good place. I always arrange my flowers first then add water so I don’t have to worry about the water splashing around as I am arranging my flowers. I really like how this turned out and I am so happy with the mesh. Now that I can see how helpful it is to have this mesh to hold the flowers in place… my wheels are spinning. I am wondering if I can cut this wire mesh into my desired size and it would be even more durable and reusable? Stay tuned!
